How to Make Sure Your Sofa Fits

A little prep now can save a lot of stress on delivery day. Use this guide to check both your room and your entryways before your new Coddle sofa arrives.

1. Measuring for Your Space

Your sofa should feel right at home in your room, not crowded or out of scale.

Understand the measurements
Each product page lists:

  • Overall Width: Side to side
  • Overall Depth: Front to back
  • Overall Height: Floor to top of the back
  • Seat Height: Floor to top of the seat cushion
  • Seat Depth: Seat edge to back cushion
  • Chaise/Sectional Length: Longest point of the layout

Test it out with tape

  • Use painter’s tape to outline your sofa’s footprint on the floor.
  • Leave at least 30 inches of walking space around it.
  • If adding a coffee table, plan for 18 inches between sofa and table for comfort and reach.

2. Measuring for Delivery

Most Coddle sofas arrive with White Glove Delivery — our team will bring your furniture inside, assemble it, and set it up in your room of choice. But before we get there, you’ll want to make sure it can actually pass through your entry points.

Step 1: Gather the product dimensions
Each product page lists the overall width, depth, and height. These are the measurements you’ll be comparing against your entry points.

Step 2: Measure your entry points

  • Doorways: Measure the height and width of every door the sofa will pass through.
  • Hallways: Measure the width and ceiling height, including tight corners or turns.
  • Stairways: Measure the width, ceiling height, and clearance at landings.
  • Elevators: Measure the interior height, width, and depth.

Step 3: Compare and confirm

  • The narrowest dimension of your entry point (door width, stairwell width, or elevator depth) must be greater than at least one of the sofa’s smaller dimensions (usually depth or height when tilted).
  • Sofas are often tilted or rotated during delivery. If your doorway is taller than the sofa’s depth or height, it should fit through.
  • For sectionals or modular pieces, compare the dimensions of each individual component, not just the assembled sofa.

Step 4: Clear the way
On delivery day, remove rugs, artwork, and light fixtures so our team has a safe, easy path.
